I had 3rd row seats thanks to the Warehouse. I decided I would make a sign asking for Dave to play #40, since I had only heard it once before (7.17.99), and because it is a rare song that Dave can play by himself- after all, the two times #40 was teased last year were because of people's signs. So I made a bright green sign with red ink with #40 written across it very large. When Dave came out to introduce Josh Kelley, I held the sign up. He noticed it and gave me a thumbs up and a wink. He mentioned how it was nice to be across the border in Canada, and how there were probably only 3 Canadians in the audience! When DMB came out, I held up the sign again. Dave was talking with Carter and held up four fingers on his right hand a couple of times, but they went into #41. The stop-time outro along with the Everyday outro lead nicely into the full version of Everyday, complete with a little singing of #36 by Dave while we all sang the "honey, honey" part. (Well, we all down in the front- I don't know about the rest of the GM Place.) This was definitely "Everyday night" because they played 7 songs from that album. But I like the album and thought the songs sounded good. Dave said he had a frog in his throat, and because of that, he had trouble with some high notes. During Warehouse, Stefan led the "woos" as usual. Some guys behind me were yelling for the "Louie Louie" outro, but the band didn't hear them. There were a lot of high-energy moments, including a mid-set Watchtower, Don't Drink the Water, What You Are (just an instrumental intro- no extra lyrics, but they did do the "get down on your knees" outro) , and the Billies closer. I was surprised that they didn't play Where Are You Going neither tonight nor in Portland. When the band left the stage before the encore break, I held up my sign again. When the band came back out, I again had my sign in the air. Dave came up to the microphone and did a tease of #40! When I heard the notes, I couldn't believe it. I mean, I hoped he would play it but I wasn't sure he actually would. I was in a daze during the tease. I knew it was short, and my brother (who was with me) said that it was about 10-15 seconds, just going on memory- once the show comes out we'll see how long it really was. These nice people sitting next to me from Boston (Dan and Lesley- hi if you're reading this) told me that Dave was looking at me while he sang it. As Lesley said, the tease was definitely for me and because of my sign! I still can't believe it!

Well, quite the unorthodox show! It started great with #41-->#36 crowd singing-->Everyday-->#36. WTWE is an okay Everyday song, so the crowd was into it solidly from the start. DDTW was off the HOOK! It was the best version I've seen by far, with Dave going absolutely nuts at the end! I couldn't make out what he was singing, but it was something I've never heards before. Dave's voice was hoarse (which is happening more and more), so he really struggled thruogh Cry Freedom, but I always enjoy that song. The Warehouse was tight, but I don't really enjoy the WOOO's at the beginning. Then the show started taking a turn for the, let's say different. The next 5 out of 9 songs were off of Everyday, which you could see was a letdown for the crowd (at least the front full of long-time fans). Almost half were sitting down and not "into it". On top of that, they played Crash Into Me, which I really like, but I know how many Nancies hate it because of the teeny-bopper crowd. What You Are was an excellent closer, especially being an ED song. It's really progressed, and Dave's screaming of "Get on your knees, motherfucker..." was a high-energy closer. And The Stone and Billies encore with short #40 tease was cooler than any encore I've seen. I missed Two Step, Bartender, Gravedigger, and Seek Up cuz they're my 4 faves, but all in all, this was a decent show. For those who weren't there, don't knock the 7 Eveyday songs in this setlist. They made the
