Best of What's Around...Eggs?

For the past year, it has been possible to buy locally-produced eggs in Charlottesville, under the "Best of What's Around" moniker. That name is no mere coincidence -- the goofy-looking, unusually-tasty eggs are the product of Dave Matthews' certified-organic farm in Albemarle County. Dave and his wife bought two square miles of land from the University of Virginia three years ago to prevent it from being subdivided, and their ever-growing selection of products are now available at the Maple Hill Farm Shop, half an hour south of Charlottesville. In addition to eggs, the sustainable farm is also producing tomatoes, herbs, peppers, pumpkins, potatoes, and a dozen other staples, with expansion underway to produce apples, turkeys, and goat cheese. Charlottesville weekly The Hook has the skinny.
