I had a little different perspective of the DMB show that i think ya'll might be interested in. My Brother in law is a volenteer at the Olympics and his Job was to be the bands driver while they were in SLC. He picked up the whole band from the airport including personal security and manager and took them to the Venue. All the guys were extremely friendly and asked lots of questions about the city and the olympics in general. Dave, Boyd and Carter were the most talkative on this day. They all got fired up when he told them that he was originally from Charlottesville too. After sound check they all hung out at the venue except Boyd who asked to be taken to the hotel to work out. He said Boyd was cool as hell and very humble. The Band played a great show and was back in the van within 45 seconds after walking off stage to dash off to the airport again. The guys were all pumped up and excited after the show. They kept saying how cool it was to be here and play for everyone. They were all watching the fireworks from the van as they sped away. They said it was one of the coolest shows they have ever played. They wished they could have stayed longer but they had to get back to seattle to finish up there new album.

It was really quite an experience to see the boys in my hometown at the olympics (my high school is only a block away from the medals plaza, and i live about a mile away from it!). The band, along with most of the crowd, seemed inhibited by the freezing cold weather, and Dave spent a good deal of the between songs time complaining about how very, very cold he was. Despite the weather, the band put on a wonderful show, consisting almost solely of radio hits (a wise decision, considering that most of the crowd was there for the medals ceremony, not for the band). Ants was awesome, and the ASTB from SMTS to Ants was just plain cool (we were all sitting there during ASTB saying "...but they already played too much!!", when they jumped into a spectacular version of Ants.). A 41 or Crush would have been great, and aside from boyd's Ants solos, there really wasn't all that much jamming, but they took what they considered to be their strongest hour of music, and wowed the crowd with it. Good job, guys!

I've got to start by saying that I waited in one of the many lines for around 3 hours only to find that the ticket I waited a total 5 hours to get, got me (the closest) 75 yards away from front row where I was expecting to be after waiting that long. Sorry, I'm a whiner. Anyway, this was my 3rd Dave show and what can I say, but Wow!!! Awesome show, they mixed it up really well for it only being an hour long concert. They threw in songs from every mainstream album, and Dave did the craziest dancing I've ever seen him do during the Ants Marching jam. What a way to top it off by playing All Along the Watchtower. Great start to a new year, boys!!!

Dave only had an hour to play, and my gosh look what he did with that hour. Just amazing. It felt like 5 hours. The greatest song they played would have to be Bartender, with DDTW right behind it. All around a great show. VEry impressed with the the skills band posesses to play in the cold. It was only 18 degrees. They were all great. Carter busted some huge rolls, just amazing. Great show.

Awsome! the energy from the croud was great, the song selection was great, everything was great! Definitly one of the best DMB shows I have ever been to. They played mostly hit songs which was cool because we don't see that often. I am So happy that the SLC olympics got them to play!

First thing I have to say, OH MY GOD, BOB SAGET IS SO F***ING UNFUNNY. You think you have seen him at his worst, well you are wrong, if you see the guy live uh. It's kind of sad though, after the medals were awarded everyone was cheering for the band to come out, but they announce Bob Saget and he got booed. Anyway, the show started out slow, probably because when the band does shows in the winter it's usually inside. Dave frequently mentioned how cold he was. I called that When the World Ends would be played, thought that was funny. Bartender being played kind of made it official it will be on the next album as the setlist is basically radio singles. So Much to Say was played which got me worried because Too Much was the song they played first, and they hardly ever play SMTS with out ASTB into Too Much, but instead they switched it up to the very best version of Ants I have ever heard. It shows that the band still can make an old song different and still kick ass. I didn't think they were going to do an encore, but ofcourse they did. They played and amazing version of Watchtower with Dave singing that "It's so cold." First show played this year and it was good for just an hour long show.

This was an exciting show, partly because of the setting in which it took place-- Opening night of the Olympic Medals Plaza ceremony concerts at the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The show was scheduled from 9 to 10 pm, but the band came on about 8:50, and played until about 10:10. I was very excited to be in the audience, but initially I was skeptical about how the quality of the set would compare to the multiple times I have seen DMB as part of a larger tour, with a full setlist. The important thing to remember is that the vast majority of the 20,000+ crowd were there first as Olympic spectators, not as DMB fans. That being said, it is easier to understand why the majority of the songs were major singles. Even so, each was played incredibly well. The jams were fewer and less lengthy, but the guys still let it rip. It was only about 20 degrees outside, and Dave made several comments about how terribly cold it was. Considering the weather, they all sounded great, even Leroi's bari made it through the set without any real squeaking (an admirable feat!) I felt like the band put a ton of heart into the show, probably because they felt a part of the special circumstances too. Overall, it was one of the better DMB shows I have attended in terms of musical quality and "heart." Many much-loved DMB tunes were left out, but since all of their songs are so great, it's hard to find room to complain. Anyone who attended this show was left with a strong sense of satisfaction after the Watchtower encore. I can't think of a better way to have begun the games.
