Two Step: Yeah... how much more upeat can you get to open the show... oh what fun it is... Jimi Thing: I had thought this was gonna open when I heard Dave plying around with his gee-tar, but number two isn't bad. Just when you thought this was over, Roi and Carter started bangin' and blowin' and all heck broke loose... rock on... Dancing Nancies: Thank goodness I got to hear this, or I was gonna be a little upset. It's one of my favorites to hear live, just cause I like to hear Boyd let loose... and he did, so that's cool... this led (as one could have assumed) into... Warehouse: The opening to this was worth the ticket price. Dave starts for 4 measures, then Boyd comes in for 4 measures, then Carter does that bass pounding drum stuff (with kick booty strobe light) till the song beins... rocked my lame butt... -*-Side Note-*- The first four songs took 41 minutes to complete. The boys no longer jam? Liars... =) Recently: No intros, but that's okay... they got about 3 minutes into the song, and there was kind of a "breakdown" of sorts... then Johnny P. came out with his "harp 'o' fury" and tore it up... that's John Popper for those who didn't get it =)... It turned an average Recently intosomething really special... it was also the first time I had seen John jam with anyone but BT (also the first time I've heard of him jamming on Recently... clarification??) What Would You Say: I'd say, "Boy it's nice that John's here..." He ripped it up y'all... It was funny... I was ready for John to come in near the end, and instead Roi comes in and rocks, and THEN JP comes in... WOW... this is cool... -*-John leaves-*- Minarets: Heehee, my favorite... the only thing missing was the upbeat ending, but it was still loud with a lot of growling... lead into... Typical Situation: Sounded good... nice beginning, more upbeat than I'm used to... The only thing about the entire evening that I didn't like came in this song... Roi was jamming and all of a sudden, they switch into the "marimba jam" (Okay, my grandma has an organ, and one of the beat settings is "Marimba", and the jam sounds like that... so there =) )... it just didn't fit where they put it, is what I'm trying to say... oh well... Pay For What You Get: Man, this was great right here... I needed it =)... you can only jam and dance for so long before you need to step back and groove away for a few minutes... I just kinda feel bad that Boyd doesn't have a place in this song... oh well, that's the way it works I guess... it was beautiful, though, with a great Roi Jam... New Song- "Panoramic View": Sorry to disappoint everyone, but this ISN'T a new song, just Carter and Stefan laying down a nice groove while Dave took some pictures of us all, and sang/rapped about how he's using panoramic view on the camera... sorry =)... So Much To Say: I still like this song very much, so there =)... it sounded great tonight... standard, but great... led to... "Julia Wyatt Jam": That's 'MY' new nickname for this part... I hope I don't get sued for improper name usage =)... it was cool, but kinda short... guess what it led to?... Too Much: rarely does a version of this song NOT rock hard, but this one surpassed every other time I have heard it... absolutley wonderful... loud and hard, the way it should be =)... Crash Into Me: Look, it's the Dave Matthews Band, the human jukeboxes! =)... Nah, I'm just kidding around... this was very beautiful, and I will always have a soft spot for this song... #41: I was gonna have to go have a serious talk with Dave afterwards if I didn't get to hear this... but here it was, so I guess there's no reason to go see Dave... =) It seemed a little shorter, but it was near perfect regardless... leads into... Ants Marching: Not as good as Milwaukee version, but I don't think anything ever will be... nice Roi at the beginning, great Boyd at the end... still a great set closer... Encore: Leave Me Praying: Ahem, I must now say that THIS is my new favorite Dave song... BUT it is just BEGGING at the end for Roi and possibly Boyd... but if you haven't heard this yet, I'll try to help you out... Tripping Billies: they launched straight into this without the intro, so I was little disoriented... extremely long, extremely loud, lots of Dave yelling, growling, and screaming... almost seemed like it wasn't going to end, but it did. That's why I'm here now. If it hadn't ended, well, I'd still be there, but I'd be REALLY tired...

While the first night at Red Rocks exuded elegance, the second night GOT DOWN. Opening with Two Step succeeded in setting folks in motion, then Jimi Thing found its groove quickly and sustained it delightfully, as did every song thereafter. Dancing Nancies ("could I have been lost somewhere in the Rockies") was all Boyd. Warehouse opened mysteriously with what I must call a Minarets tease, as if Dave were saying "We promise to do Minarets for y'all, but you have to wait for it." There was a reference to the mountains in the lyrics near the end; couldn't understand it exactly; some intense emotion pouring out toward the end as well. Recently started off strong and went quite a distance before Popper appeared on stage and the jamming took off. After it finally wound down, Dave said, "damn - damn - damn". Damn, indeed. A kickin' What Would You Say came next with Popper doing both his dizzying harmonica and vocal harmony. Fun stuff. Typical Situation rose seamlessly from the slow, tension-building beginning to the jazzy jam near the end, and a lovely, mesmerizing interlude of John Denver's "Rocky Mountain high, Colorado" line two times. Pay For What You Get included a Norwegian Wood interlude (I expected some Beatles reference since they were playing Sgt. Pepper's during the intermission). On So Much to Say, Dave was doing a new wa-wa thing with the guitar...sounded downright electric...and then the longest Little Baby jam/Anyone Seen the Bridge that I've heard to date. Into Too Much, then Crash Into Me, then yet another wonderful 41, and a whoopin' Ants during which Boyd actually crossed the whole stage and played up next to Roi. The first encore, Leave Me Praying (becoming standard this summer), left me praying; this is an absolutely gorgeous song and this, the fourth time I've heard it on this tour, demonstrated that it's unfolding more and more with every outing. Interesting to see the audience, which was familiar with just about every song, start off a little baffled with Praying and get sucked into it until, by the end (if there was ever any doubt), the crowd was fully won over. Tripping Billies was a bit of a letdown for me as the ender; although I CANNOT criticize this show, I admit I was hoping for One Sweet World under the stars at Red Rocks. The 7/2 show was a classic. Every song was in top form. The Popper appearance was icing on the cake. Leroi was so on that Dave practically had to rein him in a few times. Boyd was a dancin' cockbird, just sawing away on his magic fiddle. Stefan provided an anchoring groove throughout; he is so great to watch. Carter was/is a percussive alchemist, using all the tools at his disposal, moving the mic around to capture each nuance. And David ... it really struck me that night what a powerful physical presence he is - on top of his creativity and extraordinary talent...his vocal performance was strong and full and expressive and perfect all night...his body moving as one with his music...his arms and hands drawing from guitar all manner of sound and rhythm...he is the most amazing musician alive. This show also illustrated the band's power to pull an audience fully into its grip. The Red Rocks crowds were *the best* audiences I have ever seen at a DMB show (including *lots* of "older" folks, BTW). Nearly everyone was totally involved in the music, even a few skeptics in our party who arrived with no expectations and left as complete, unmitigated devotees.

Los Lobos opened with the loudest set i have ever heard in my life, they did some pretty cool spanish/polka songs, that had the hippies dancin away then an awesome version of La Bamba, slow and souled out to the max. At the end of the set, lead singer says, ok guys time to spark it, or something similar. DMB comes on and kick out a mean two step, lots of jumpin around Jimi Thing- to die for, wow what a jam, Dave and Stefan went nuts, many segues into and out of the song, very cool. Warehouse- awesome, very jelly filled enters: Popper RECENTLY: my first live recently, and I taped it!!, gotta love it WWYS- a mellow, album version with popper, or so you think, they go friggin nuts on the jam, I was in heaven. exit: Popper, me:sad don't remember order, but they played TS, 41, PFWYG and that mellowed the crowd quite a bit. SMTS-->bridge-->too much, pretty good, the halloween show was better Crash into me- wippee all the little highschool girls finally quit talking Ants- wow, very very fast, loud and oh so lovely to dance to encore: leave me praying, everybody is like "gee what song is this", I was well groovified Billies- had to promote the new single, but Boyd went nuts!!! they should have used this for the video. Great night, mellow crowd, I taped it, along with the 15 or 20 other people an incredible set list, with mucho jammido, I just found my way back to DMB after a short hiatus, thank you very much boys, you rock!!
